Defense Secretary Addresses Funding for Ukraine

The current aid legislation has stalled in the House of Representatives.

U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin spoke about Ukraine’s need for assistance at Ramstein Air Base in Germany, stating, “Ukraine’s survival is in danger and America’s security is at risk.“

The defense secretary said, “I leave here today fully determined to keep U.S. security assistance and ammunition flowing. And that’s a matter of survival and sovereignty for Ukraine and it’s a matter of honor and security for America.“

Defense officials report that Russia is advancing due to Ukraine’s waning defense, which will likely continue without additional funding.

Secretary Austin did not specify what actions Washington would take to support Ukraine in lieu of Congressionally-approved funding. A bill pending in the House would approve $60 billion for Ukraine, however, House Speaker Mike Johnson has kept the bill from the floor because it does not offer changes to U.S. border policy.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for Defense Secretary Austin as he promotes support for Ukraine.
  • For the members of both chambers of Congress as they consider government spending and the national budget.
